I just moved - yes, again, the 9th time in the past 10 years. 2 weeks ago, my new landlady Carolyn said that if I started to move boxes over, I would be able to see Cereus blossoms.
最近搬家 (沒錯，過去 10 年中第 9 次搬)，新房東 Carolyn 說後院 Cereus 開花，她說如果我那一星期開始搬東西過去，就可以賞花。
I looked Cereus up online; says it blooms at night and only for 1 night. So how could I see the flowers if I go over in the afternoon?
I was confused - Carolyn explained that she has 2 kinds in the yard: one blooms during the day time for about a week and the other only blooms at night. However, there is no way to know whether and when the night one will bloom.
上網查了一下 Cereus， 花是半夜開，只開一晚，那我傍晚去看不到呀?
我問 Carolyn，她說有兩種，一種開白天，花期約一星期，她有另一株，是只開一晚，可是完成無法預測今年會不會開，何時開。
Cereus 應該就是曇花，仙人掌的一種。
The dry green looks quite pathetic whole year round, until it blooms.
仙人掌平時不開花，就是這樣乾乾枯枯的綠，一點都不起眼。
Once it blooms, the flower looks kinda like lily.
可是一開花，還蠻像蓮花的，比我的手掌大。
This one is red, red, red!
這一株是火紅色。
含苞待放 - 花從葉狀枝的邊緣長出。
花開時筒部下垂。
The texture on the petal is just amazing.
曇花一現 - 從小聽到大，現在第一次看到其中一個品種，真老土！
I wish the night Cereus in the yard will bloom this year - during my short stay!
希望另一株夜間開的，今年會開花，可以真的體驗一下 "曇花一現"！
