My college buddy Flora visited me at the Getty and I took her to an Italian restaurant, Giovanni’s Trattori & Pizzeria. My roommate liked it; I also heard good thing about it from other’s blog.

First came the hot bread that tasted real good when it’s still warm. With the butter, yummy!

先上的是熱騰騰的麵包趁熱加奶油好吃


 
* The antipasto we ordered was “Antipasto Misto (for 2).” $10.95

The fresh Mozzarella was awesome. The lettuce tasted sweet and fresh, whereas the bruschetta was totally covered by garlic and fresh tomato. I kinda like salame but it’s a bit salty for me as I have a very light taste. So I put it on bruschetta and mixed with veggies and Mozzarella – perfecto! The grilled broccoli, eggplant, and zucchini could get a bit greasy but still all right with me. I personally don’t really like green or bell peppers but I still tried two pieces of bell peppers - not bad. 

我們點的開胃菜是雙人份的沙拉拼盤Antipasto Misto (for 2)新鮮的Mozzarella 起司超讚的麵包 (bruschetta) 被壓在下面上面滿滿的大蒜蕃茄因為salame 有點鹹我把它跟麵包起司與生菜加在一起真好吃不過疊起來很高嘴巴太小了
烤青菜也不錯,我是不吃甜椒的,不過這一次也吃了幾條,盤底就有一點油,但整體還是很棒。






 
Our entrees was linguini mare $16.95, a special of that day, which was like mixed seafood spaghetti. My past pasta experience: the tomato sauce was often too sour and I could taste nothing but just sourness. This one, however, was made with fresh tomato and it didn’t cover up other seafood’s original flavors. Flora and I both liked it a lot.

以前吃義大利麵都覺得蕃茄醬酸酸的其它料的原味都被壓過可是這一盤是新鮮蕃茄湯汁都有海鮮味沒有清一色的酸蕃茄味佩頭跟我都很喜歡

When just entering the restaurant, we were the first customers. I started to talk to Giovanni, the owner, who asked how I got to know his place. I said we read about his restaurant on someone’s blog and felt we had to come, especially for tiramisu. He said that recently there have been many Chinese faces here and he wondered if that was the reason. He said they don’t do advertisement much, and it is always by word of mouth; so sometimes they get a crowd, sometime not.
當我們快七點時進餐廳都沒有人有點小擔心我跟店主人Giovanni 聊天他問我如何得知他的店我說讀到別人的部落格他說最近有很多東方面孔可能跟這部落格有關因為他不太作廣告,都是口耳相傳,所以有時候很多客人有時候比較少


 


And then he mentioned that only three pieces of tiramisu were left so I asked him right away to reserve one for us. Flora came all the way from San Diego and she must have a piece before she returned.

Flora’s friends came with her. Rachel ordered Insalata Mozzarella (salad, $7.95) that she said was nice, although she was confused how come it didn’t look like our appetizer. We ordered the salad from “Antipasti” menu whereas she had it from the Insalata menu. Although they both appeared salads, they were not exactlly the same.


佩頭的朋友也來逛博物館 Rachel 點了Mozzarella 沙拉 $7.95她滿喜歡的不過一開始很訝異怎麼跟我們的沙拉看起來不一樣因為我們是點開胃菜中的拼盤她是從沙拉菜單中選得所以料不一樣份量也不同


 

* Rachel’s little boy Josh had a 12-inch Pepperoni Pizza $11.99 and he jus said, “it’s good” as soon as he had first bite.

* Yvonne loved her salmon as well.

* The only disappointment was Jen’s Penne Pesto with mushroom, which she thought was too greasy. But Pesto pasta is made with oliver oil, so I was not suprised that it's greasy.

唯一美中不足的是 Jen Penne Pesto (洋菇九層塔加橄欖油義大利麵 不會翻譯) 她覺得實在太油了



 

* Flora and I knew that one appetizer and one entree would be enough for us because we had to save room for tiramisu.

所以佩頭跟我只點一份開胃菜與一份主菜因為今天的重點是提拉米蘇



  
* It melted almost right away as soon as you had a bite.

Flora has tasted tiramisu in many restaurants and she said only two so far were REAL tiramisu: this one and one in Chicago.

佩頭吃了很多家的提拉米蘇真正稱得上是提拉米蘇除了在芝加哥的某一家就是現在吃的這一份入口即化愛死了

 

 

I asked whether she wanted a second dessert and, of course, she would. Giovanni recommended “torta della nonna” (grandma’s cake) that he said he needed to heat it up and add some stuff. And it was their last piece. There was no way we could say no. The pine seeds on it were excellent but we’re getting pretty full.

我問她要不要再來一份甜點呀答案是當然嘍

Giovanni 推薦 torta della nonna (grandma’s cake 很難翻) 他說要再加熱上面加點東西 (他的義大利腔有點難懂)他又加一句是最後一片,真是難以抗拒,上面的松子

 


And Giovanni brought another kind of dessert to Jen’s table; Flora and I were confused – how come they got a complimentary dessert? It was “pear tart” – the pear was soaked (if it is a right word to use) with some kind of wine and the tart was just amazing! AMAZING! Later Yvonne explained that Jen went up to Giovanni and kinda complained about the greasy pasta; thus, Giovanni gave her a dessert.

So we paid for the dinner, and out of nowhere, Giovanni brought Flora and me a piece of pear tart, too. We were extremely thankful but we’re just way too full at that moment. We asked if we could have a to-go box, and he was so kind to pack it for us. I told Giovanni that next time I take my friend here, I will have to call first to see if he has Red Wine Lamb special that day.
才剛付完帳老闆又端上一份 pear tart 送給佩頭跟我我們已經飽到不行我端回去給 Giovanni 他驚訝得說不要呀我說不是的我們太飽了可以打包嗎

他問說回去要馬上吃嗎我說得開兩小時的車他說那鮮奶油最好不包進來真細心

下次去要先打電話確定有紅酒羊排
