室友 Tiarna emailed 說她11月30要去聽歌劇, 看我們有沒有興趣
My landlady Tiarna told us that she planned to watch Don Giovanni in LA Opera on Nov 30 and asked if we would be interested and could all meet in the lobby.
我上 LA Opera 網站, 發現有時會有學生優惠票, 便把我學校的 email 給他們; 幾天後果然收到通知, 11月30那天有學生票, 馬上上網幫我跟 Ji 訂票 (Ji 是韓國人, 剛在巴黎拿到碩士, 現在跟我一樣在 Getty 實習)
I checked out its website and signed up for Student Rush tickets. A few days later, I got a notice and immediately, I bought 2 tickets for Ji and I. (Ji is Korean; she got her master degree in Paris and is now an intern at the Getty, too)
* 噴泉廣場 / Plaza
當天我很早就到 Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 它的一邊是迪士尼音樂廳, 另一邊是噴泉廣場, 再過去則有兩座劇場; 這些個表演場地組成”音樂中心” (Music Center)
I got there way early (because I was on the east side of LA that day and didn’t want to drive home and then to downtown - LA traffic suckssssss); the parking was a flat fee of $8 for performance. Across the street from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is Disney Concert Hall. On the other side of the Pavilion is the plaza with fountain, and of course, X’mas tree. Further are two theatres. These 4 spaces compose of Music Center (musiccenter.org) - Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County.
* 每一場表演前一小時, 都有人演講介紹當天的劇碼, 地點設在二樓大廳; 因為聖誕節快到了可以看到聖誕裝飾
An hour before each performance, there is a speech introducing the opera of the day; it is set on the 2nd-floor lobby where the concession is also located.
小瓜呆從來沒看過一場完整的歌劇演出, 挺興奮得; 我蠻喜歡它的舞台設計, 不過演出中不能拍照, 就只好省略了!
I have never seen a complete opera performance so I was very excited. I like its stage design but since photography is prohibited, I can’t show you anything here. LA Opera presents Don Giovanni and Le Boheme at the same time period and I just wonder how they change the set to accommodate two productions. Unfortunately, I had been waiting to see if there was student ticket for ”Le Boheme” - it was all sold out . . .

20 dollars for a full-length opera - what an amazing deal! And it’s in orchestra level! Even better!!!
